Frequently Asked Questions

  • When is the 2023 Brown Postdoctoral Research Symposium?
    • The symposium will take place on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, from 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM.
  • Where will the symposium take place?
    • The symposium will take place at 225 Dyer Street, Providence, RI 02903 on the fifth and fourth floors. Please take the elevator from the lobby to the fourth floor when you arrive to check in, hang your coat on the coat rack, and help yourself to refreshments.
  • Who can register for the symposium?
    • While this symposium is designed for postdoctoral research associates and postdoctoral fellows at Brown, OUPA is extending the invitation to register for this event to those who could still benefit from participating in this event and networking with colleagues.
  • Is there parking nearby?
    • There are several individual-pay surface lots as well as metered parking around the 225 Dyer building. Garage options include South Street Landing Garage on Eddy Street or the Garrahy Garage on Clifford Street.
  • Is the venue accessible via the Brown Shuttle?
    • Yes. The shuttle stops at 225 Dyer Street. Please check the shuttle route here.
  • When will the doors to the venue open for attendees?
    • The event begins officially at 8:00 AM.
  • Will food and beverages be provided?
    • Yes, a warm breakfast with coffee and tea will be provided from 8:00 AM to 8:45 AM, a mid-morning break with refreshments will be provided from 10:00 AM to 10:15 AM, and boxed lunches with beverages will be available for attendees to take away at 12:30 PM.
  • Is there assigned seating? 
    • No. Attendees may sit where they would like. The room will be arranged with twelve tables and 6-8 chairs per table.
  • Will the symposium be livestreamed for people who cannot attend in person?
    • No. Unfortunately, the venue cannot accommodate both meals and recording or livestreaming due to how the room’s microphones are positioned. Thus, this event is in-person only.
  • Will there be a photographer on site?
    • Yes, there will be a professional event photographer taking photos during the symposium. The Office of University Communications also will send a videographer to document part of the symposium.
  • What COVID-19 protocols will be in place during the symposium?
    • The symposium will follow any COVID-19 protocols set by Brown University, which can be found here. At this time, face masks are optional.
  • Is the venue accessible?
    • Yes, 225 Dyer Street has elevator access up to the fourth and fifth floors and accessible restrooms.
  • How do I access the fourth and fifth floors?
    • For security purposes, the doors to access the fourth and fifth floors at 225 Dyer Street are locked. The doors cannot be propped open. For these reasons, we will have staff stationed at the doors on the fourth and fifth floors to admit attendees during the symposium.
    • You can take an internal staircase between the fourth and fifth floors during the event or use the elevator. Please note, you will need to be admitted through the glass doors by a staff member after using the elevator.
  • Will there be a reception after the symposium?
    • There is no formal reception, but attendees can take a boxed lunch and beverage from the fourth floor starting at 12:30 PM. Attendees are welcome to continue mingling in Classroom 565 or the fourth-floor lounge area until 1:00 PM.
