Cynthia Xu, MD – General Surgery Resident

Cynthia is a general surgery resident at Rhode Island Hospital, Brown University, with an interest in aortic disease. She received a Bachelor and Master in piano performance at the University of Maryland, College Park, and medical degree from the University of Maryland in Baltimore. In the summer of 2021, she joined the Abid lab, with plans to work on extracellular vesicles in the treatment of cardiovascular disease.

Sharif Sabe, MD – General Surgery Resident

Sharif is a general surgery resident at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and clinical teaching fellow at Harvard Medical School, with an interest in cardiac surgery. He received a BA in Anthropology, MA in Bioethics, and MD from Case Western Reserve University. In the Summer of 2021, he joined the Abid lab, with plans to work on extracellular vesicles in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases.

Mohamed Sabra, MDResearch Intern

My name is Mohamed Sabra.  I was born and raised in New Jersey. I obtained my medical degree at October 6 University Medical School in Egypt. I did my surgery rotations at Rhode Island Hospital with Dr. Frank Sellke. I am currently studying for my U.S Medical License Exams and applying for surgical residency in the U.S. My main interest is Cardiovascular surgery and research. I joined the Cardiovascular Research center in order to learn and assist in current lab research on cardiovascular, oxidant and extracellular vesicles experiments. I am grateful and honored to be working alongside such great minds and impactful pioneers in the field of medical discovery.

 


Christopher Chang – Undergraduate Student

Christopher is part of the class of 2023 at Brown University and is a member of the Program of Liberal Medical Education – an 8 year BS/MD program that enables him to get an undergraduate degree at Brown and a medical degree at the Warren Alpert Medical School in 2027. He plans to double concentrate in Biochemistry and English during his time at Brown. Christopher has been involved in multiple research projects since high school, mostly in the fields of cancer and cardiovascular research. In his free time, he enjoys reading, playing chess, and playing tennis.
