This was the very first project pursued by the group at Brown, building on the PI’s resonant tunneling work in III-V materials (during PhD at Princeton) and Si/SiGe heterostructures (during post-doc at IBM Research). We studied inhomogenous strain in Si/SiGe double-barrier tunneling structures and quantum dots, discovering inhomogeneous-strain-induced quantum rings in the process. We also collaborated with Vladimir Goldman’s group at Stony Brook to study resonant tunneling through antidot quantum states in the FQHE regime.
