POST-DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS
CAARI SENIOR SCHOLAR IN RESIDENCE: An established scholar who commits to stay at least 30 days in succession at CAARI, ideally in the summer, and to be available in evenings and weekends to younger scholars working there, in return for 50% reduction in residency rate. Must have PhD in archaeology or ancillary field for at least 5 years prior to visit, be fluent in English (but may be of any nationality), and be committed to mentoring students. Travel and other expenses not covered. Deadline: December 15, 2013.
CARRI/CAORC RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS: Two fellowships provide US $5500 each (up to US $1500 for transportation and an additional US $4000 for research expenses on the island) and are designed for scholars who already have their PhDs, whose research engages the archaeology, history, culture, or geography of Cyprus, and who would derive significant benefit from a month’s research time on the island. Particular consideration given to applicants whose projects enable them to include Cyprus in their teaching.  A minimum of 30 days residence at CAARI is required. Applicants must be U.S. citizens. FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMS OFFERED BY THE AMERICAN RESEARCH INSTITUTE IN TURKEY:
American Research Institute in Turkey Fellowships for Graduate and Post-Doctoral Research in Turkey: ARIT Fellowships support research in ancient, medieval, or modern times, in any field of the humanities and social sciences.  Post-doctoral and dissertation research fellowships may be held for terms of one month to one academic year.  Stipends generally range from $4,000 to $16,000.  Applicants must be affiliated with U.S. or Canadian institutions.  ARIT Fellowship support comes from the U.S.Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Exchanges, administered in part by the Council of American Research Centers, and from the American Research Institute in Turkey.

ARIT National Endowment for the Humanities/ARIT Post-Doctoral Fellowships: ARIT/NEH Fellowships, funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities, provide longer term support for advanced research in all fields of the humanities, including prehistory, history, art, archaeology, literature, and linguistics as well as interdisciplinary aspects of cultural history.  The fellowship tenures range from four months to a full year.  Stipends range from $16,800 to $50,400.  Applicants must be U.S. citizens or three-year residents of the U.S. who are affiliated with U.S. or Canadian institution and have completed formal training in their field of study.

Boğaziçi University Summer Language Program in Advanced Turkish Language: The ARIT/ Princeton University/BU Program offers scholarship, travel, and stipend to support eight weeks of intensive advanced study of Turkish language and culture at Boğaziçi University in Istanbul.  Applicants must be graduate students in good standing or advanced scholars and also must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. For those who are ineligible to receive ARIT fellowship funding, Bogaziçi University offers courses at all levels in the Turkish Language and Culture Program.  For more information about the program, see the Boğaziçi University Summer School.

W.D.E. Coulson & Toni M. Cross Aegean Exchange Program: The W.D.E. Coulson and Toni M. Cross Aegean Exchange Program supports Turkish scholars who wish to conduct research in Greece and Greek scholars who wish to carry out research in Turkey. The purpose of the fellowships is to promote scholarly exchanges between Turkey and Greece by supporting the research of nationals of the Republic of Turkey in any field of the humanities and social sciences from pre-historic to modern times who need to conduct their study in Greece. Post-Doctoral Fellowship in the Program in Early Cultures

The Program in Early Cultures at Brown University (PEC) invites applications for a post-doctoral fellow to participate in a Mellon-Sawyer Seminar, “Animal Magnetism: The Emotional Ecology of Animals and Humans.”  This will be a one-year position, beginning on July 1, 2013.
Funded by the Mellon Foundation, this Sawyer Seminar addresses the emotional, symbolic, and social dimensions of past human relations with animals.  Three themes inform the year-long program—animals as symbolic resources for the human imagination, the emotional bond between humans and animals, and the nature of such bonds as both extensions and complications of human society.  The applicant’s specific research and teaching interests, geographical and temporal specializations and areas of expertise are left open, although—consistent with the mission of the PEC—these should focus on pre-modern cultures in the Old or New Worlds.
The successful candidate will probably be housed in the Departments of Anthropology or Classics or in the Joukowsky Institute for Archaeology and the Ancient World. The successful candidate will teach two courses—one each term—on topics related to the Mellon-Sawyer Seminar. The fellow will also help coordinate the activities of the Seminar during the academic year. In their applications, candidates should submit a proposal describing research to be done over the course of the fellowship. Applicants must normally have received their Ph.D. within the last five years, from an institution other than Brown.

The Joukowsky Institute for Archaeology and the Ancient World at Brown University invites applications for post-doctoral fellowships.
We invite applications in four spheres, looking particularly for original and innovative work in:
1) the archaeology and art of the Late Antique and Islamic worlds;
2) environmental archaeology;
3) visual culture of the ancient world;
4) the material culture of the Brown University campus and of Providence, RI.
Other fields that complement the present strengths of the Joukowsky Institute community will also be considered.
In addition to pursuing their research, successful candidates will be expected to teach half time — i.e., one course per semester.  Teaching will be at both the undergraduate and graduate levels; interdisciplinary offerings are desirable.  Applicants must normally have received their Ph.D. from an institution other than Brown within the last five years.  Successful candidates will be expected to make substantive contributions to the ongoing development of the Joukowsky Institute for Archaeology and the Ancient World, such as the organization of reading or working groups, a topical symposium, or another project intended to foster a stimulating intellectual environment in which to pursue research and to develop new interdisciplinary connections.  This will be a one-year position, with the possibility of a one-year renewal, beginning on July 1, 2013.

Studying in Africa, Asia, and Latin America    
Art history is rapidly being reconceptualized to meet new social, political, and aesthetic demands. Essential contributions to this efflorescence will come from junior scholars in Africa, Asia, and Latin America, whose research questions, methods, and objects of study may be informed by the intellectual, linguistic, and political context of their practice. This first Summer Research Academy seeks 8 doctoral students from those regions to research and dialogue with 8 junior and 8 senior scholars from the International Consortium on Art History.  
The theme for the 2012 Summer Research Academy is Encounters. We seek submissions that address artistic and art historical encounters, such as the staging of encounters, the work of art as a product of encounters, and the reception of artworks resulting from encounters. The topic will be explored using library resources and special collections at the Getty Research Institute, as well as collections at the Getty Museum.

The University at Buffalo seeks a Post-doctoral Scholar (PS) for its interdisciplinary Institute for European and Mediterranean Archaeology (IEMA).  
During a 10 month tenure, the PS teaches one graduate seminar (preferably on the topic of the symposium), organizes a symposium, and edits a subsequent volume reflecting IEMA’s focus on post-Pleistocene European and Mediterranean anthropological and classical archaeology.  Symposium focus is open, but should stress contemporary theory, topics of broad current interest, and be inclusive of the Institute’s broader geographic/temporal foci.
The PS receives stipend and benefits. US and international archaeologists with Ph.D. by August, 2012 in Anthropology, Classics, Archaeology or related disciplines are encouraged to apply.

The Department of Egyptology and Ancient Western Asian Studies at Brown University invites applications for a post-doctoral visiting assistant professorship in Assyriology, Egyptology, or the material culture of Egypt or Ancient Western Asia. Candidates whose research interests complement those of current faculty are particularly encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate will be appointed for one year beginning on 1 July 2012. Post-doctoral visiting assistant professors are expected to pursue their own research and publications and are required to teach one course per semester at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Visiting assistant professors are also expected to participate in the academic life of the department: for example, by involvement in research seminars and counseling graduate students in their research.
