ARISE Faculty are senior faculty in biomedical engineering or allied disciplines. They are volunteers for the ARISE program. They agree to participate for two years, noting the intensive sponsorship will last 18 months.

Faculty will be matched with at least one ARISE scholar from the Alliance based on research interests and intersectional identities. ARISE Faculty agree also to stay engaged with the program for the duration, committing to:

  • provide information before, during, and after their sponsorship experience to evaluate and improve the program.
  • participate in a training workshop on inclusive mentoring practices and contribute to the ARISE learning community which centers on drafting and revising a best practices document to guide future sponsors.
  • attend one-on-one remote meetings with their sponsees along with ongoing regular check-ins over 18 months.
  • offer new opportunities and experiences to their sponsees. These may include inviting them for an in-person visit; nominating them for awards, papers, or talks; facilitating introductions to potential collaborators or possible employers; and/or scheduling in-person meet-ups at professional meetings.

ARISE Faculty should expect to spend three hours per month on ongoing activities during the intensive sponsoring period. They should allocate six to eight hours over a few weeks prior to starting sponsorship to become well-versed in inclusive sponsorship and intersectional issues
