Managing submissions

A senior editor will review all submissions. The Editors reserve the right to reject, without review, manuscripts on topics outside the scope of JBHM; with serious deficiencies in methods, study design, or analysis; with poor punctuation and structure; or of such limited scope that they lack relevance for the journal’s audience. Manuscripts will be judged based on scientific merit and quality of writing. If a submission meets the criteria for scope and clinical interest/importance, it will be anonymized and forwarded to anonymous peer review.

All original articles, case reports, reviews, images in medicine will be sent for peer review. Revised manuscripts that pass peer review will be forwarded to the Senior Editor for further editing/revision and a final decision regarding publication. All editorial decisions will be made in a timely fashion. Information on the status of manuscripts can be obtained from the editorial office, which can be contacted at Arkadiy_Finn@brown.edu or Vijairam_Selvaraj@brown.edu.

JBHM Editors and Associate Editors adhere to the philosophy that organization, clarity of presentation, writing style, and consistency in format enhance reader understanding and, therefore, the usefulness of articles and their authors’ reputations. Manuscripts that are poorly prepared will be returned to authors without review. In cases where authors lack experience or English is a second language, every effort will be made to provide editorial services and guidance to authors upon their request. All manuscripts will be thoroughly and carefully edited, and copy edited to ensure that they are grammatically and factually correct and as concise as possible before they are published.
