February 13, 2025- BRRTP trainee, Kwesi Lillard, MD, presented “A Novel Approach to Identify Pneumonia Utilizing Peripheral Blood RNA Sequencing” at the 20th Annual Academic Surgical Congress in Las Vegas, NV.


February 11-14, 2025- Former BRRTP Trainee, Navneet Singh, MD,(left) and BRRTP MPI, Sharon Rounds, MD, (right) both presented at the Research Symposium on Pulmonary Injury and Repair of the Endothelium (ReSPIRE) hosted by the University of South Alabama. Dr. Singh gave an oral presentation, “Hepatic MYDGF Mediates Pulmonary Endothelial Vasculopathy in Pulmonary Hypertension,” and also received an outstanding abstract award. Dr. Rounds presented a poster, “Differential susceptibility to cigarette smoke-induced lung endothelial injury” and gave an oral presentation, “Vascular Cell Fate”.
January 23, 2025- BRRTP MPI, Sharon Rounds, MD, was awarded the 2025 W. Fred Taylor Award. The W. Fred Taylor Award is an annual recognition presented by the EPSCoR/IDeA Coalition and Foundation Boards. The award honors an individual who has made significant contributions to enhancing the impact of the NIH Institutional Development Award (IDeA) Program, either regionally or nationally.

June 26, 2024- Former BRRTP trainee, Brandon Armstead, PhD, successfully defended his thesis titled “Endothelial Checkpoint Protein Interactions Uniquely Prime for Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome via the
Adrenomedullin Signaling Axis”. Congratulations, Brandon!
June 26, 2024- BRRTP MPI Yang Zhou, PhD, received $80,000 for the Hermansky-Pudlak Syndrome Network Inc. Research Grant in Immune Responses in HPS-ILD for his work on “Innate Immune Responses in a Mouse Model of HPS that Develops Spontaneous Lung Fibrosis”.
May 19, 2024– Congratulations to Navneet Singh, MD, on his Early Career Investigator Award in Pulmonary Vascular Disease given by the Pulmonary Circulation Assembly of the American Thoracic Society. The title of his proposal is “The Liver is an Inflammatory Mediator of Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension.” His mentors for this proposal are: Corey E. Venetuolo, MD, MS, Elizabeth O. Harrington, PhD, Olin Liang, PhD, & Kittichai Promrat, MD. The award funds total $100,000 and runs from August 1, 2024 to July 30, 2025.
May 17-22, 2024– Two of our BRRTP postdocs, Navneet Singh, MD, and Maya Cohen, MD, attended the annual American Thoracic Society (ATS) meeting and presented their research. Navneet presented his work on “MELD-Na Can Predict the Severity of Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension” and Maya presented on the topic of “Multimorbidity Subphenotypes in Sepsis Have Differential Host Responses and Mortality Outcomes”.
