Congratulations, Matt, on your well deserved retirement. A new chapter of your life is just about to begin. How cool is that!!
You interviewed me 22 years ago for an open position in the jazz department on a recommendation from Paul Mason. It was a difficult time in my life, but that interview was THE pivotal point of my future. You gave me the opportunity to do what I love and what I was best at, teaching jazz piano and directing jazz combos. During this time I have witnessed your love for music, unstoppable work ethic, deep rooted care for the student experience, and never ending support for the faculty members who work with and for you. It is these qualities that have brought the music curriculum of the University to the highest levels of achievement, and I thank you.
I wish for you a long and happy retirement with many great experiences. We will all miss you. The music department will not be the same without you behind the wheel.
