Caitlin O’Neill (Senior Assistant Director, Brown LGBTQ Center)

Caitlin O’Neill is the Senior Assistant Director of the LGBTQ Center with an adjunct faculty appointment in the department of American Studies and Ethnic Studies at Brown University. A former Yale University Sarah Pettit Dissertation Fellow in Lesbian Studies, they hold a PhD in African and African Diaspora Studies from The University of Texas at Austin. Caitlin’s current research is interested in tracing alternative genealogies of black radical and visionary traditions that center the creative and Afro-Atlantic religious contributions of black women’s literature and cultural production. Caitlin’s work appears in the Journal of American Culture and in the collection Critical Black Futures: Speculative Theories and Explorations edited by Philip Butler.  Caitlin’s professional interests are centered around cultivating a supportive environment for historically marginalized students at all levels (undergraduate, graduate, and medical) that allows them to thrive academically, professionally, and personally.
