Curriculum

What shaped the Civil Rights Movement? How did African Americans resist and organize against de jure and de facto violence, oppression, and racial inequality? What are the legacies of the Civil Rights Movement? This course will examine the Civil Rights Movement and link it to relevant moments in history spanning the period of enslavement to contemporary Black freedom struggles. 

Students will engage with a multitude of sources produced in or about the period. In this course students will center the Black experience to shape and reshape what they know about the Civil Rights Movement and its legacy today.
