The lab welcomes rotation student Madeline Malfara! She will be working with Caroline on building tools to study T. cruzi. She has a strong background in trypanosome biology, and we are ecstatic to have her!

The lab is welcoming three new members! For the summer we will have Jacqueline Lopez joining us from El Paso as she completes her Leadership Alliance summer program. We also have Sophie Marcus-Wade joining us as an undergraduate researcher, who is currently a Brown University student. Last but not least, we have Emily Campbell joining us as our new research assistant!

We welcome Janet Ogeneitsega Joseph to the lab as a rotation student! Janet completed her BSc at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. She was an Intramural Research Training Awardee (IRTA) in the Viral Epidemiology and Immunity Unit at the NIAID/NIH, where she studied the seroprevalence of the endemic coronaviruses in a pediatric cohort in Cebu, Philippines, how they influence infection with SARS-CoV-2, and their overall protective ability. . Her previous experiences include brain stimulation and ketamine to relieve the symptoms of depression at the NIMH, deep brain stimulation for Parkinson’s disease, and spinal cord injury and neuromodulation at the Mayo Clinic. Her interests are in tropical diseases endemic in Africa, their origin, modes and mechanisms of infection, evolution over time, and vaccine/drug development.
