Jamal’s Contemporary African Dance Class implements various West African dance styles with Modern techniques and diverse contemporary music styles to create a new, unique technique that is relevant to a multifarious community. Using high energy movement that manipulates conventional rhythmic structure, the class will focus on new choreography that is a reinterpretation of Igor Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring.

Dance Extension, Brown’s modern repertory company has extended into the larger dance community since its founding in 1979 by Julie Adams Strandberg. This concert highlights those community friends, featuring three new works by choreographers from company-in-residence, Dancing Legacy. The concert also includes an archival retrospective of dances from the past and a video compilation of alumni in a new production of Parsons Etude.
