Can government regulation mitigate the harmful effects of misinformation? New regulatory roadmaps – the EU Commission’s Digital Services Act, and the Online Safety Bill in the UK – are important first steps, but only broader solutions will effectively curb misinformation in health, politics, and other key areas.
A panel of regulators and experts described the limits and unintended consequences of regulating online information, and analyzed approaches and draft bills under consideration in the US, at both the local and national level.
