Project Overview
IFL Visiting Fellow Evelyn Peréz-Verdía will build on her work with the Lab in South Florida at the end of last year. Her focus will be on how people and organizations can better address the information needs of Spanish-speaking diaspora communities, with a focus on mitigating the impact of targeted, sophisticated disinformation in an election year.
About Evelyn
Evelyn Pérez-Verdía is the Founder of We Are Más, a South Florida-based social impact organization specializing in culturally competent, multilingual hyperlocal engagement with diaspora groups. Over the course of her 20+ year career Evelyn has advised numerous educational institutions, foundations, nonprofits, and grassroots groups, as well as multiple US Presidential campaigns and Government agencies, including the US Department of State Speaker’s Program, where she gives workshops to journalists and civil society leaders in Latin America and globally. Her expertise in Hispanic outreach and Spanish language disinformation has been quoted and covered in over 100 international, national, and local media outlets, including her assisting national English-language media with breaking the 2020 US Presidential election story about private WhatsApp channels in Spanish targeting diaspora communities in South Florida.
