“Three seasons with Kiosk have transformed my team’s ability to record, access, evaluate, and use our excavation data. Our registrar has found it to be the most useful software package she has worked with on any excavation. At every step, the Kiosk admin team has offered fantastic support, making adoption of this complex software both doable and rewarding.
I really love Kiosk and believe in what you guys are doing.”
Leslie Anne Warden, Roanoke College, Director, Kom el-Hisn Provincialism Project
“Kiosk is an invaluable tool for teaching our students to be conscientious, responsible excavators. The system has customizable, built-in reminders that prompt students to fill in missing data and require them to enter crucial contextual information before they log finds. The students not only learn the basics of archaeological recording as they document their trenches, but also the importance of clarity and being thorough in their descriptions as they often have to rely on the data entered by classmates or students from previous years of excavation. The “director’s view” feature is also a huge help to us as instructors, as it enables us to review all of the data recorded during a day of excavation and identify gaps or errors. Kiosk also makes it very easy for students to access the excavation data at the end of term to use in their final projects.”
Leah Neiman, Brown University graduate student instructor of the practicum excavation course ARCH1900: the Archaeology of College Hill
“Having access to Kiosk for our first field season was a game-changer! It’s user-friendly, intuitive, and immensely beneficial for managing all kinds of excavation data.”
Didi el-Behaedi, University of Missouri, Director, Memphis Kom el-Fakhry Archaeological Project
“One of the most useful features of the Kiosk recording system is the ability to link individual narrative entries to specific images. It’s like being able to draw a plan or sketch an artifact next to a text entry in a traditional paper notebook, but infinitely more flexible because you can connect as many images as you want (without having to estimate how many pages to save), as well as a much wider variety of images (e.g., plans, sections, aerial photos, feature photos, object photos) to the narrative. The added bonus is that any of those images can have been annotated first. The linking feature makes organizing records the work of a moment and is particularly useful when going back through documentation at the end of the season to write the area’s report. I cannot stress enough how much of a difference the linking feature made when it was introduced!”
Anna Soifer, University of Puget Sound, Supervisor, Progetto S’Urachi
“Kiosk has been easy to use, comprehensive, and good for learning quickly. You have developed an awesome piece of software that is not only a powerful tool for project record production and management but also for teaching fundamentals of stratigraphic recording.”
Daniel Newgarden, Brown University undergraduate and first-time excavator at the Progetto S’Urachi
