Margarite Whitten, PhD, is the Program Manager for LeaHD, facilitating communication and collaboration amongst the Cores, and providing support for acquisition, performance, and administration of projects and programs. As a medical anthropologist, her ethnographic research has focused on health policy and data in the United States and Portugal, with emphasis on the everyday impact for healthcare providers of vulnerable populations. She has also provided qualitative research support on several public health studies, and directed community health efforts while serving as Program Director of the Trinity Health Transforming Communities Initiative in Springfield, MA from 2016-2019. Dr. Whitten is the ethnographer on the Research On Active Design in Springfield (R.O.A.D.S.) study led by the Public Health Institute of Western Massachusetts and the Tufts University Department of Public Health, and funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Policies For Action grant. She currently serves on the Board of Research on U.S. Healthcare (RUSH), a Special Interest Group of the Society for Medical Anthropology.
