MBQR-E

Mindfulness-based Queer Resilience-Essence

Early life adversity (ELA) is highly prevalent, with approximately half of children in the US having experienced at least one adverse event in their early years. Research shows that those who experience ELA face elevated risks of poor mental and physical health outcomes over time, into adulthood. However, despite the urgent need, scalable interventions that address the unique contextual stressors and emotional distress of this population remain severely underdeveloped and under-researched.

Our Work So Far

Mindfulness-Based Queer Resilience (MBQR) was originally developed as a 10-week, Internet-delivered mindfulness intervention program designed to promote mental & sexual health for LGBTQ+ people.

We have run a clinical trial for a version of MBQR tailored specifically for young gay men, bi men, queer men & non-binary people who were assigned male at birth.

Ongoing Work

Building on the foundation of our past work, MBQR-Essence version streamlines and adapts core therapeutic components into a flexible digital format delivered on a mobile app, with a focus on LGBTQ+ young people and other groups who may have experienced early life adversities.
