  • LINEAGE

This completed body of work is titled ‘Lineage.’ In line with my thesis proposal, I set out to write and produce an LP of 8 of my original songs that showcases my cultural fabric as it pertains to music. I believe that this work is sonically influenced by music of many of the cultures that have influenced me in my evolution from childhood into womanhood; namely R&B, Soul, Afrobeats, and Musical Theatre. From start to finish, I attempted to take the listener on a journey from wistful, romantic youth, to pubescent rebellion, sexual and romantic curiosity and awakening, and, eventually, adolescent existentialism. Ultimately, my final question, as posed in Lineage, remains “where is my home?”, if I find home in so many places and phases of life. I collaborated with Mena Sachdev, Warner Meadows, Ezemdi Akalonu, Elliott Garland and Dai Miyazaki on this project.
