Trauma-Informed Obstetric Care (OBTIC) (K23HD107296):

Project Leader: LG Ward, PhD

The OBTIC study team will use information gathered from experts (birthing people, midwives, physicians, and nurses) to guide the creation of a toolkit to support the integration of trauma-informed care principles into routine obstetrics practice. The OBTIC toolkit will include training for clinicians and staff, tools to support the wellbeing of clinicians and staff, and clinical tools to facilitate trauma-informed practice with all patients. The OBTIC toolkit will also include tools to help birthing people navigate obstetric care and birthing in a way that supports wellbeing and empowerment.

Mindfulness and Daily Experiences Study (R01HL157288):

Project Leader: Maggie Bublitz, PhD

The goals of the clinical trial are to identify the psychological, physiological, and interpersonal mechanisms through which a brief phone-delivered mindfulness intervention reduces risk for hypertensive disorders of pregnancy. Participants at risk for hypertensive disorders of pregnancy are recruited in early pregnancy and randomized to an 8-week mindfulness training intervention or usual obstetric care. We are using ambulatory blood pressure, research ultrasound, and ecological momentary assessments methods to examine changes in daily experiences are cardiovascular parameters of risk before and after the intervention.

Targeting the brain-heart axis with TMS among reproductive aged women with PTSD

Project Leader: Maggie Bublitz, PhD

The goals of this single-arm clinical trial are to evaluate the acute and longer-term effects of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) on blood pressure in women at risk for cardiovascular disease. We will enroll 20 women with elevated PTSD symptoms who also have a diagnosis of hypertension. This trial was funded by the COBRE Center for Neuromodulation (Mentor: Noah Philip, MD).
