About the Study
- Title: ASCEND: A Study of Career Entry and Network Development
- Purpose: To explore how social networks influence health behaviors, including alcohol and substance use, among young adults starting new jobs.
- Participation: Open to young adults (18-25 years old) who are beginning a new job.
What You Will Do
- Orientation Session: A 30-minute session after completing the first survey.
- Surveys: Seven surveys over two years, each lasting about 60 minutes.
- Daily Diary Assessments: Short 10-minute surveys, completed for one week at five different time points.
Key Dates
- Baseline Survey: Complete once eligibility is determined.
- Follow-up Surveys at 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 12 months, 18 months, and 24 months after starting your job.
- Daily Diary 7-day bursts occur after each follow-up survey.
Confidentiality
Your information is protected:
- De-identified Data: Survey answers will not include personal identifiers.
- Secure Storage: Data is stored on password-protected systems.
- Certificate of Confidentiality: Prevents researchers from being compelled to disclose identifiable information.
