Patricia Cioe, Ph.D.

Associate Professor of Behavioral and Social Sciences (Research)

Patricia Cioe, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Behavioral & Social Sciences at Brown University School of Public Health. She has been on faculty at Brown’s Center for Alcohol and Addiction Studies since 2014. She got her Ph.D. in Nursing at University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester MA, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at Brown where she trained in tobacco dependence in the lab of Dr. Christopher Kahler. She is a certified family nurse practitioner and has spent most of her career caring for patients with HIV. Her program of research focuses on designing interventions to reduce cardiovascular risk in people with HIV, specifically focusing on behavioral interventions to reduce smoking, which is a major risk factor for heart disease. She also works on studies that test new medications and behavioral methods of treating tobacco and other drug dependence in a wide variety of adults and adolescents.

Dr. Cioe is a native Rhode Islander, attended St. Mary’s Bay View Academy in East Providence, and the University of Rhode Island College of Nursing in Kingston, RI. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, spending time on the water, biking, and hiking.
