IMAGES OF MIGRATION FROM LESVOS

This photo essay offers a visual impression of the ways in which the island of Lesvos is being materially transformed by migration. It also evokes varied responses to the phenomenon, from feelings of hope, resilience, and hospitality, to anxiety, concern, and tension. Many of the photographs, taken by Yannis Hamilakis between 2016 and 2020, depict localities on the island which have not been explored in other sections of the exhibition, including the city of Mytilini and the various solidarity camps supporting migrants’ efforts.
