Our current investigations focus on 1) the VEGF-A165 alternative splice variants in post vascular injury and advanced aging condition; 2) the cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in impaired inflammatory angiogenesis/arteriogenesis in response to vascular injury in the setting of long-term diabetes mellitus and aging. Understanding the molecular mechanisms whereby inflammatory angiogenesis is reduced consequent to dysregulated inflammatory response and decreased VEGF-A expression in aged Type 2 diabetes and age-related defects will contribute to generating new therapeutic strategies associated with immune-mediated response to vascular injury.
