Peter Bronk, PhD

Assistant Professor of Medicine (Research)

The duration and shape of the cardiac action potential depends on the precise balance of ion channel currents to rapidly depolarize the cardiomyocyte and then repolarize it after an appropriate duration. My projects focus on understanding how an imbalance in ion channel currents lead to cardiac arrhythmias and potential therapies to normalize or prevent this imbalance. The main projects I am currently working on include 1) the role of small conductance calcium activated potassium channels in repolarization of the cardiac action potential and 2) the role of mechanotransduction in electrical remodeling induced atrial fibrillation under conditions of pulmonary hypertension.
