I am interested in the role that non-classical CD8+ T cells play during infections and cancer. Using MCMV as a model, I am working to understand the role these non-classical cells play during chronic infection. Beyond research, I have worked at the Brown Writing Center as a Writing Associate since 2018. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, skiing, traveling, playing/coaching volleyball, and spending time with my dogs. I also love to spend my weekends visiting the White Mountains in NH.
Samantha Borys
I am interested in understanding how checkpoint inhibitors influence the development and maturation of NK cells and tissue resident memory T cells during viral infection. In addition to my research, I mentor high school and undergraduate students interested in careers in science. I also love experimenting in the kitchen, playing tabletop/video games, gardening, kayaking, volunteering with exotic animals, and watching movies with my dog.

I am interested in how the immune response differs by tissue type. I hope to explore how natural killer cells in the lung and other secondary non lymphoid tissue respond to viral challenge, using MCMV as a disease model. I further hope to characterize the specific roles that tissue resident NK cells, conventional NK cells and other innate lymphoid cell populations play in viral clearance. Outside of the lab, I enjoy playing video games, cooking, spending time with my dog, Kohaku, and traveling.
Alex Jordon
I am interested in the role inhibitory checkpoint receptors play in NK cell function during cancer progression. I am working to understand the contributions of specific NK cell inhibitory checkpoint receptors to NK cell exhaustion and how to mitigate this using monoclonal antibodies. Outside of the lab you can find me teaching new techniques in inclusive pedagogy at the Sheridan Center for Teaching and Learning. Otherwise, look for me at a local coffee shop or mountainside hiking in my native New Hampshire.
