Clean laboratory
The metal-free 1000-ft² complex for low-blank / contamination-free sample processing is located in DEEPS and was completed in 2023. It consists of equipment room, airlock, corridor, weighing room, mass spec room, as well as two ISO6 (class 1000) bays (for separate processing of natural and spiked samples), which are equipped with a total of nine ISO4 (class 10) vertical laminar flow workstations.

 

Neoma MC-ICP-MS

Newest-generation double-focusing (ESA and magnetic sector) multicollector mass spectrometer with plasma source, used for high-precision isotope ratio measurements. Our instrument is equipped with a Jet interface, ten moveable Faraday cups and one central dual-mode (Faraday/SEM) detector, eleven 1011Ω and three 1013Ω amplifiers, a microDX autosampler, as well as Aridus3 and Apex Omega HF desolvating systems.

 

iCAP RQ ICP-MS

Single quadrupole inductively-coupled plasma mass spectrometer used for the determination of major, minor, and trace element concentrations. It is equipped with a single SEM detector, a QCell collision/reaction cell (CRC), and a 2DX autosampler.

 

MIR10² laser
(Elemental Scientific)

Heating and fusion system with a continuous wave mid-infrared CO2 laser (P=30W, λ=10.6μm) used for fusion/digestion of geologic samples. In combination with a fluorination line and a 253 Plus IRMS, it is also utilized for triple oxygen isotope measurements (Ibarra Lab).
