Gerrit Budde (PI)     CV
Assistant Professor  |  R@B  |  ORCID  |  GS

Gerrit joined the Department of Earth, Environmental and Planetary Sciences (DEEPS) at Brown University in 2022 as part of the Geochemistry/Mineralogy/Petrology group. As a cosmo- and geochemist, his research focuses on obtaining a better understanding of the origin and early evolution of the Solar System as well as the inner workings of the Earth through chemical and isotopic analyses of meteorites and planetary samples. Gerrit received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Geosciences from the University of Hannover and the University of Münster (Germany), respectively. He became part of the Cosmochemistry and Isotope Geochemistry group (T. Kleine) at the University of Münster in 2013, where he completed his Ph.D. degree and two years of postdoctoral research. In 2019, Gerrit joined the Isotoparium (F. Tissot) at the California Institute of Technology as postdoctoral scholar until he became Assistant Professor at Brown.

havelRiley Havel     CV
Graduate Student  |  ORCID  |  GS

Riley joined DEEPS in 2022, where she is currently working on isotopic analyses of oxygen and other elements in meteorites and their components. Riley graduated from the University of Central Florida (UCF) in 2022 with a B.Sc. in Physics and a minor in Geosciences. While at UCF, she conducted experimental astrochemistry research in the Bennett Lab characterizing icy moon analogs and regolith simulants. Throughout undergrad, Riley also enjoyed conducting research as a summer intern in the Astrobiology Analytical Lab at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center (2020) and in the Geosystem Modeling Group at the University of Bremen (2021). During her last year at UCF, she worked as a Simulant Engineer and Geotechnical Researcher at the Exolith Lab making lunar, martian, and asteroidal regolith simulants. Outside the lab, Riley chooses to spend her time with friends by sharing meals at local restaurants, starting the day at CrossFit, or exploring Providence and the greater Northeast.

razionaleDan Razionale     CV
Graduate Student  |  ORCID  |  RG

Dan received his B.Sc. from Eckerd College in 2017, where he researched the extent and timeline of geochemical disequilibria in the wake of the Deepwater Horizon Blowout event, which occurred in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010. Following school, he earned five years of professional experience in multiple analytical geochemistry labs. Most recently, Dan served as the lab technician and manager in a stable isotope geochemistry lab at the University of Chicago, where he was responsible for the maintenance and operation of several instruments, including a Neptune XT MC-ICP-MS, iCap RQ ICP-MS, and an automated ICS-6000 system. Dan joined DEEPS in 2022, where he seeks to employ state-of-the-art equipment and cutting-edge analytical techniques in pursuit of fundamental questions in the fields of cosmochemistry and isotope geochemistry. When he is not in the lab, he enjoys swimming, playing and listening to music, and birdwatching.
