Welcome to the IAMSBIRT Learning Community for Social Workers!
Nurses, social workers, and site leaders all play important roles in the IAMSBIRT training initiative.
Social workers will be responsible for delivering a brief intervention and/or referral to treatment to adolescent patients who screen positive for alcohol or other drug use. The social worker will also provide counseling on safe opioid medication and will help to link adolescents back to their primary care provider for continued discussion around healthy behaviors.
All social workers participating in the IAMSBIRT training initiative will receive SBIRT training. Social work training includes an online orientation, an in-person workshop, and role-playing practice cases.
In addition, staff in all three tracks—nurses, social workers, and leaders—will be asked to complete a series of anonymous brief online surveys.
