Advance Clinical and Translational Research (Advance-CTR) was established in 2016 after receiving a $19.5 million Institutional Development Award for Clinical and Translational Research (IDeA-CTR) from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences. In 2021, the program received a $19.9 million grant from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences to fund its expansion into a second, five-year phase.
Based at Brown University, Advance-CTR is a statewide partnership between Brown, The University of Rhode Island, Care New England, Lifespan, The Providence VA Medical Center, and the Rhode Island Quality Institute, with faculty-led Cores at each partner institution. It serves as a central hub to support and train the next generation of clinical and translational researchers in Rhode Island.
Through its interdisciplinary and inter-institutional model, Advance-CTR funds and supports research across the translational science spectrum, including basic science, clinical, public health, community-engaged research efforts, and beyond. The program also provides research services and support, and professional development opportunities to investigators in across the state.
