Music Capstone Project

  • Untitled EP

As a 3-track Untitled EP, this project seeks to represent my growth in music production and lyrical song-writing in the form of demo tracks and beats. The production largely demonstrates my shift towards electronic techniques including sampling and midi tracking, while still incorporating my background in live performance. In addition to these production techniques drawn from courses such as Advanced Studio Techniques, my work has been largely influenced by my studies with my capstone advisor Dr. Lumumba-Kasongo in Rap as Storytelling, where I had my first opportunities to truly explore and develop my lyrical and song-writing abilities that had been missing from my predominantly instrumental work. Given the tumultuous circumstances under which this EP was produced, the written tracks speak to and try to make sense of the changing headspace and overwhelming feelings of loss, helplessness, and despair that have now become inextricable from my final moments at Brown. Adapting to such a change mid-semester, the collected tracks demonstrate a tonal-shift in production and content that captures the emotional arc of this last semester. Having unfortunately lost access to Brown’s studio facilities, the tracked performances serve more as lower fidelity drafts for future production, but are nonetheless representative of my evolving lyrical capabilities and exploration into a personal musical style. I hope to share these tracks on Bandcamp and Soundcloud in the near-future.
