Graduate Research Opportunities

We are looking for talented and motivated graduate students with a background in cognitive science, developmental psychology and/or computer science. The Computational Cognitive Development Lab (which contains the Brown Dog Lab) is directed by Dr. Daphna Buchsbaum. Our lab is a part of the Department of Cognitive, Linguistic, and Psychological Sciences (CLPS) at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island.

Examples of recent and current research topics include:

Capturing dogs’ visual experiences of the world by utilizing eye-tracking technology

Exploring humans’ perceptions of dogs and the dog-owner relationship

Children’s integration of verbal testimony and causal observations

Causal imitation in children and other primate species

Modeling the relationship between statistical action segmentation & causal inference

Modeling sequential dependency between informants (do children understand that they are learning        from other learners?)

Exploring the relationship between children’s understanding of real-world causal structure              and their pretend play
