ENGN1490 Biomaterials

A quantitative understanding of biomaterials requires the integration of chemistry, materials science, mechanics of materials, and the biological system where the material will be applied. This fundamental course in biomedical engineering aims to engage students in an interdisciplinary field to synthesize prior knowledge and apply design principles to understand a wide range of biocompatible materials.  Students will learn about surface chemistry, natural and synthetic hydrogels and polymers, biomolecular engineering, cellular interactions, biodegradation, drug/protein delivery, devices, and immune/host response through examples in the musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, nervous, and digestive systems. (Fall 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021)

ENGN1520 Cardiovascular Engineering

This course aims to teach quantitative physiological function of the heart and vascular system, including cardiac biomechanics and vascular flow dynamics, through lectures and discussion of current scientific literature.  (Fall 2014, 2015, 2016; Spring 2018, 2020, 2021)
