Grad and Undergrad Organizers

Kanchita (Khing) Klangboonkrong

A first year physics PhD student from Thailand, working with Prof. Greg Tucker on EXCITE (Exoplanet Climate Infrared TElescope). She is a co-leader of the Women in Physics organization (WiP) at Brown University. In her free time, she loves hiking, gardening, and traveling.

Daniel Li

Daniel is a fifth year doctoral student working with Professor Meenakshi Narain on the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). His dissertation is on the first search for triple-top quark production in proton-proton collisions involving novel uses of machine learning. He is also passionate about teaching and pedagogical practices, having developed and taught an introductory course to particle physics history for high school students. Outside of the office, he is most likely playing his Nintendo Switch, cooking a HelloFresh meal, or hanging out with his sister’s cats.

Farrah Simpson

Currently pursuing her physics doctoral degree at Brown University. Her research is in Experimental High Energy Physics and focuses on Beyond Standard Model Physics.  She hails from the island of Jamaica and completed her undergraduate degree in Applied Physics at Columbia University in the City of New York. She is passionate about teaching, mentoring and advocating for historically underrepresented groups in physics and in STEM. She currently serves as the Student Representative on the National Society of Black Physicists’ Executive Board. She is co-leader of the Women in Physics group at Brown and a member of the USCMS DEI committee where she is helping with DEI efforts in the CMS collaboration. She is, most recently, a fellow in the S-NSBP Summer Program. In her spare time, she enjoys running, ballet dancing and reading history books.

Reilly Ratcliffe

Reilly is a first year physics Master’s student hailing from Central Connecticut State University. She is interested in the theoretical intersection of particle physics and cosmology. Having benefitted herself from CUWiP during her time in undergrad, she is invested in giving back to and fostering the community of women in physics. Outside the classroom, Reilly loves to spend her time hiking, climbing, and skiing in the mountains.!

Sarah Bowers

A first year geophysics Ph.D. student working with Dr. Karen Fischer in the Department of Earth, Environmental, and Planetary Sciences (DEEPS). She attended CUWiP twice while studying physics at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). Outside her studies, she enjoys dancing, hiking, and roller skating.

Kayla Diaz

Kayla is a first year Physics Sc.M. student pursuing Astrophysics and Cosmology Theory. She earned a BS in Physics from the University of Tampa, where she was President of SPS for two years. Born in Rhode Island, Kayla is excited to be back and is hoping to conduct more outreach for women in STEM in the area. Outside of physics, she games.

Rachel Hemmer

Rachel is a senior concentrating in Astrophysics. She serves as an undergraduate teaching assistant for the introductory astronomy courses and is a member of the physics department diversity and inclusion committee (DDIAP). Her research focuses on galaxy clusters! Outside of physics, she dances in the ballet and contemporary styles and enjoys journaling and embroidering.

Ishika Tulsian

Hi! I’m Ishika Tulsian, a rising sophomore from Mumbai, India – concentrating in Mathematical Physics and Computer Science. I’m a member of Physics Department Diversity and Inclusion Committee (DIAPP), and also of the Li Lab research group. Apart from that, I enjoy making art and looking for new study spots in my free time! I’m so excited to be a part of the CUWiP local organizing committee!
