Tammy Kjonaas

Physics Teacher, The Wheeler School, Providence, RI

Panelist

Tammy Kjonaas teaches physics at The Wheeler School in Providence, RI. After graduating with a physics major from DePauw University and completing internships with the National Radio Astronomy Observatory and VERITAS gamma-ray observatory, she intended to pursue astrophysics in graduate school. That is, until she got a job (at a yard sale!) teaching high school physics and never looked back. For 19 years, she has been teaching atomic, nuclear, and particle physics in the hope of inspiring more young people to pursue a fundamental understanding of the universe, careers in STEM, and general science literacy. Having spent many years as the only woman in the room, she now has the luxury of working at a woman-founded, women-led, and women-majority school, and advocating for more diverse representation in STEM.
