We will have a short time on the day of the event to go over the Ethics Bowl format and answer any last-minute questions. You will be provided with all the documents you need at the bowl, but you will find it helpful to familiarize yourself with them in advance.

  • Competition Match Format: This is an overview of how a match proceeds.
  • Procedure for Moderators: This is a handy list of the steps through the match, and will help you keep track of what you need to be timing, etc.
  • Moderator Script: This is very detailed script, showing you exactly what to say and do at each point. Exact wording isn’t mandatory, of course, but some of it is quite specific so please make sure what you say is accurate and that no precious time is wasted.
  • Composite Score Report: Once judges have completed their score sheets, you will have them write their total score for each team and their vote for the winning team, as determined by your score totals. The winning team is the one that gets the most judge’s votes.
  • 2019-2020 RI Regional Cases: These are the 10 cases that will be used on the day of the competition, but there will only be a single case question which often will not be the same as the listed study questions.  You are not required to do any research or have any prior familiarity with the cases, but you may find it helpful to briefly read through them in advance. In the round you’ll have 2 minutes to read each case while the assigned team is preparing their initial presentation.
