Right Path
“Right Path” is a full-length album written, recorded, performed and produced by Ben Michals. The album’s 8 songs thematically show the coming-of-age journey experienced by the modern college student, reflecting on love, loss, finding one’s purpose and the overall aspiration to romanticize the human experience. While thematically the album has strong, concept-album type themes tying it together, there are also common musical elements such as prominent bass lines, vocal stacks, digital synthesizers and guitar solos, creating a cohesive record while still allowing exploration of multiple genres. The album may be classified as pop but pulls in elements of rock, funk, indie pop, classical and more. In all, the album presents as a lens into the world of a young person trying to figure it all out, in a world where no one ever truly does have it figured out, and the journey to accepting that the beauty in life is in embracing the present while allowing yourself to dream about the future. As part of this thesis project, Ben also developed an artistic direction and marketing plan based on recent successful pop album case studies. Ben plans to begin releasing promotional singles for this project as soon as fall 2022.
