Music  |  Urban Studies

Cherilyn Tan is a pianist, singer, flutist, community-centered designer and facilitator. During her time at Brown, she has been part of the Jazz Combo, World Music Ensemble, the Creative Ensemble, acapella, and in pit bands for several student productions. As an Urban Studies and Music concentrator, Cherilyn has taken classes ranging from performance art and songwriting, to classes in urban anthropology, mindfulness and design. She believes in music and the arts as sites and mediums for healing, justice, creative placemaking and radical dreaming. Her practice involves improvisation, play, collaboration, and facilitating connection, reflection and deep listening through sound and movement.

She is grateful for improv jamming with friends, for the wonderful music community, and for the professors, mentors, and peers who have guided and encouraged her along the way.
