Music Capstone Project:

How’s the Weather Looking?

Visuals were synthesized and recorded in Max MSP, largely using Jitter to take weather data from 1949 and 2019 to create patterns. Temperature controlled both how zoomed in the pattern was as well as color, wind changed rotation of the pattern, and visibility controlled brightness overall. Visuals were influenced by artwork of Haida and Tlingit tribes of southern Alaska as well as temperature maps. The goal of the movie is to provide an alternate way to experience weather that is removed from tactile feeling or numerical representation, and be able to compare climate trends currently with decades previously.

Personal Statement:

Margaret is a sound artist originally from Kotzebue, Alaska who loves sounds of all kinds. At Brown they focused on sound design for live theater and creating data-driven generative work in Max MSP, mostly about the weather. After graduation you can find Margaret walking dogs on the streets of Providence and continuing to create art of many mediums.
