Our activities unfold in two physical locations on the Brown University Campus:

  • The Giddings House facilities include a Zeiss zoom stereo microscope and USB camera (5x-50x reflected light magnification), brass sieves and analytical balance for macrobotanical sample preparation, macrobotanical sorting tools, two Zeiss microscopes and cameras with polarized light (100x-1000x transmitted light magnification), handheld sonicators for microbotanical residue extractions, microbotanical and macrobotanical reference collections, and microbotanical and macrobotanical reference volumes
  • The ILAS facilities include the immobile fume hood, sinks, workbenches, storage areas, cabinets, shelves, safety equipment, and specialized electrical outlets. Equipment and instrumentation include a Thermolyne muffle furnace, MARS 6 microwave digestion system, Thermo Scientific centrifuges, Vortex mixer, Solaris shaker, Mettler balance, and microscopes.

In each laboratory, some supplies (such as glassware) are available to all laboratory users, but individual users will need to purchase their own disposable supplies (such as pipettes). Distilled water is available through two taps in the ILAS.
