Compensation Details
You will be paid for the portions of the study that you complete, as detailed below. Payments will be made to you with your choice of either (1) a reloadable debit card called a ClinCard, which you will receive during onboarding or (2) electronic gift cards to Amazon.com. If you choose to use a ClinCard, payments will be made on this card throughout the study
Daily Data Collection within each Burst
Daily Surveys.
For daily surveys, it is very important that you answer the app prompts when they happen. You will receive additional compensation each week that you respond to the app prompts, based on the chart below. For 90% or higher compliance each week, you can earn a total of $35-40/week, or up to $150 per burst. In the first week of using the app, if you do not complete 75% of surveys you are required to complete, the researchers may withdraw you from the study. In later weeks, if you continually fail to answer app prompts and provide minimal data, you may be excluded from the study. If withdrawn, you will still receive payment based on your weekly compliance.
Bracelet.
In Burst 1, for each day that you wear the bracelet and follow instructions (i.e., wear it continuously, keep it charged, sync daily), you will receive $4 (for a total of up to $28/week and $112 per burst). You may be selected to wear the bracelet again in Burst 2 and/or Burst 3, for which this same payment structure will apply.
Matching Bonus.
You will receive a $30 bonus for an 85% or higher match rate (24 out of 28 days) between the data you provide on daily surveys and the bracelet readings. A “match” is indicated by either (a) completion of all relevant drinking reports + bracelet indication of alcohol use, or (b) no self-report of drinking and no bracelet indication of alcohol use. You will receive the total amount earned for the daily data collection period at the end of each burst, after returning study equipment.
Burst 1 Onboarding and Annual Survey.
For completion of both the online survey [~60-75 minutes] and Onboarding Session you will receive $45. Combined with payments for the month of daily data collection, you can earn up to $337 total for Burst 1.
Burst 2 Refresher Training and Annual Survey.
For your refresher training appointment (~60 minutes) and online survey (~60-75 minutes), you will receive $40. Combined with payments for the one month of daily data collection, you can earn up to $332 for Burst 2 if selected to wear the bracelet and up to $190 for Burst 2 if not selected to wear the bracelet.
Burst 3 Refresher Training and Annual Survey.
For your final refresher training appointment (~45 minutes) and online survey (~60-75 minutes), you will receive $45. Combined with payments for the one month of daily data collection, you can earn up to $337 for Burst 3 if selected to wear the bracelet and up to $195 for Burst 2 if not selected to wear the bracelet.
