Do you and your students want to see what it might be like to grow plants on the Moon or Mars? This is your chance!
The NASA Rhode Island Space Grant Consortium is pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted for the Plant the Moon Challenge for the Spring 2024 growing season.
The NASA RISG will support a limited number of teams/classes to take part in the Spring 2024 growing season. To be considered for funding by the NASA RI Space Grant, visit: plantthemoon.com/space-grant-application Applications must be submitted by December 3, 2023.
The Spring 2024 growing season will officially start on January 22, 2024. This hands-on STEM engagement opportunity is open to students of all ages, and the basic premise is that each student group designs their own experiment to grow plants in simulated Moon or Mars soil (known formally as “regolith simulants”). The challenge includes opportunities to share results and see what other teams have done. This is a great opportunity for interactive science that is directly relevant to multiple Next Generation Science Standards, and we encourage educators and student groups from across Rhode Island to apply.
