Any individual who has, through initial research achievement in a field of pure or applied science, shown aptitude for research is eligible for election to associate membership by a chapter or Department Representative.
Associate membership is offered to encourage young investigators with a promise to continue careers in research. In making the nomination, the nominator attests to the nominee’s potential for future promotion to full member.
Qualifications for Associate Membership
Individuals nominated for Associate Membership are:
Students who have demonstrated a high level of competence in science.
The qualifications for students are:
1. A grade point average of 3.4 or better in the sciences.
2. Involvement in a research project under supervision for at least one semester.
These qualifications are intended to be guidelines and not to be interpreted rigidly. Candidates with lower grade point averages may, for example, be elected on the basis of research activity. The Departmental Elector will be expected to have specific knowledge of the student’s academic and research performance.
