Music Capstone Project:
STAREATER
STAREATER is a 3 track heavy electronic EP drawing inspiration from film and game scores, metal, dance music, science-fiction, and my own personal narrative. My intention was to create long-form music that sheds light on my inner world: from the joy and triumph to the turmoil and despair. In part, I also want to demonstrate the profound expressive capacity of computer-based music. I initially built these tracks to provide something to move to, but I’ve also found that people enjoy listening contemplatively as well. I hope that these sounds can reach out and bring some portion of the world much needed catharsis.
Personal Statement:
Nathaniel “Ruth” J Allen is a producer, violist, and electric bassist from the suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia. Their work at Brown explored digital and analog electronic music production as well as improvisation and performance. Their aesthetic draws from idioms in heavy metal, noise, game and film soundtracks, and EDM. Ruth’s great love for science-fiction, fantasy, and all things nerdy and alternative always seems to find a way into their sound.
