2019 Cohort

The 2019 CRMI Cohort included students Deliana Lora, Damilola Odelabu, Ashley Charles, Jessicaliz Carrasquillo, Errol Taylor, Nayely Furcal Marte, Aminah Searight and Jamie Hazard. In expressing their interest in the program, students discussed a desire to engage in a formal study of the Civil Rights Movement as a way of better understanding social movements and activism for the current moment. Students pointed to concerns of their own, including access to a quality education, the prevalence of gun violence, and racial violence and oppression in illustrating their own aspirations to make change in the world. Students also highlighted how social media has become a unique tool of contemporary activists in raising awareness around these and other contemporary freedom struggles. Ultimately, students described the timeless power of one’s passion to fight for what is right and just as foundational to all social movements.
