The ecosystem of biomedical data science is massive and highly interconnected. Knowing the various subfields, how they interact, and what information they can provide us is essential for taking full advantage of the field.

About Dr. Hemme

Dr. Hemme is the Director of the Rhode Island INBRE Molecular Informatics Core, an NIH Data Sciences Core for Biomedical Research. Dr. Hemme received his PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Missouri where he studied microbial genomics of sulfate-reducing bacteria. He completed post-docs at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the University of Oklahoma, and the University of Southern California in the areas of environmental genomics, genomics of bioenergy relevant microbes, and the human oral microbiome. As Director of the MIC, he provides bioinformatics services to the RI-INBRE network and is expanding the scope of the core to include 3D science visualization, machine learning, and cloud computing for biomedical research.
