Multi-omic analysis of stem cell response to inflammation

The Darling Lab article “Identifying immunomodulatory subpopulations of adipose stromal vascular fraction and stem/stromal cells through single-cell transcriptomics and bulk proteomics” was accepted for publication in Stem Cell Reviews and Reports. This study used a combination of proteomic data sets across multiple human donor samples and a single-cell transcriptomic data set for one matched donor to investigate how inflammatory environments alter stem cell response. Findings revealed the expected gene/protein responses in the overall population but also identified distinct, non-overlapping subpopulations of stress adaptive immune regulators and ECM remodelers. Because these cell types have distinct marker profiles, they are potential targets for enrichment in future regenerative engineering applications. Congratulations to lead author Addie Parsons!
