Peter Coyle, PT, DPT, PhD

Clinical Research Scientist, Department of Physical Therapy, University of Delaware
LHS Scholar, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC)

Peter Coyle, PT, DPT, PhD is an Associate Director of Patient Reported Outcomes, Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine. Previously Dr. Coyle served as clinical research scientist in the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Delaware. Dr. Coyle completed his postdoctoral fellowship in 2019 under the mentorship of Dr. Jennifer Brach at the University of Pittsburgh, with the support of the Center on Health Services Training and Research (CoHSTAR).

As a LeaRRn scholar, Dr. Coyle will be working closely with Dr. Janet Freburger and University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) to investigate care pathways of patients with stroke who are discharged from acute care and inpatient rehabilitation settings back into the community. Dr. Coyle will work with UPMC collaborators on characterizing: 1) the stroke survivors who are recommended for outpatient therapy, using electronic medical record data; 2) the workflow processes associated with managing these patients in the acute, inpatient, home health, and outpatient settings. Ultimately, this project will aid in identifying factors that prevent or facilitate within-system transitions, and lay the groundwork for developing better care pathways.
