Shilpa Krishnan, PT, Ph.D. is a physical therapist and a health services researcher whose research focuses on patient-centered outcomes research using a mixed-methods approach. Dr. Krishnan’s ongoing research projects include comparing the effectiveness of rehabilitation outcomes following stroke, assessing and improving access to rehabilitation services among minorities, implementation and evaluation of functional outcome measures in acute care hospitals, prevention and early detection of quality measures such as pressure ulcers, and assessment and management of caregiver needs following neurological needs. Dr. Krishnan is the PI on the National Institute of Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR) funded the Switzer grant exploring rehabilitation service utilization in skilled nursing facilities among older adults with pressure ulcers. In addition, Dr. Krishnan serves as a Co-I on an STTR grant funded by the National Library of Medicine – NIH to evaluate the implementation of a clinical decision tool across three hospitals in the United States.
As a LeaRRn scholar, Dr. Krishnan will be working with the team of Boston Medical Center under the mentorship of Dr. Mary Slavin. Dr. Krishnan will implement the functional outcome measures in post-acute care and evaluate and address the overuse of acute care therapists.
