The Darling Lab article “Discovery of surface biomarkers for cell mechanophenotype via an intracellular protein-based enrichment strategy” was accepted for publication in Cellular and Molecular Life Sciences. This study described how to identify surface markers for as yet un-sortable cell types. It included a demonstration for “stiff” and “soft” mesenchymal stem cells, finding that CD44 was inversely correlated with whole-cell elastic modulus and could be used to enrich for these cell types which had enhance bone/fat differentiation potentials. Congratulations to lead author Megan Dempsey!
