Dear Grad Community,
As this summer unwinds, International Orientation for newly accepted Grad Students is coming! Soon, your future grad colleagues will show up from various points of the globe, some of them never having even stepped foot in the United States.
To help your incoming cohorts, I am looking for volunteers who would be willing to generously donate some of their time to help with International Graduate Student Orientation onAugust 21-22, 2014, from 9 am to 4 pm to be Graduate Student Peer Mentors.
If you are free that day, please join me to give a hand to your future class/lab/dissertation group mates. You will chat with them about life at Brown throughout the day, while participating in workshops with our new students (clickers involved! free lunch!). Anyone, international or domestic students, can be a GSPM, as I, along with the Office of International Students, will provide a short training on Thursday August 14, 2014 to help you understand questions frequently asked and how to deal with them as well as introduce you to your fellow GSPM.
Breakfast and lunch will be provided by the Graduate School, and you will all be cordially invited to a Movie Night (complete with cookies and pizza) that very night!
Whether they come from far lands like India or closer like Canada, our newly admitted graduate students will have a ton of questions for you, and you will get to make new friends before the traditional Welcome Back Party sponsored by the Graduate Student Council.
So come lend a hand, make new friends, and maybe even learn something you did not know about Brown!
